Questions about searching
the CDW Archive:
How
do I search for an article in the CDW Archive?
If you are a subscriber (if
you're not, see paragraph below), log in as usual using the
ID and password provided you (if you do not remember your
password, see "What if I forgot my password and/or my
ID?" below). Then at the top of the navigation bar on
the right hand side click on "Subscriber Search."
Read the paragraph below that begins with the words "This
will take you?."
If you are a non-subscriber, go to the right-hand navigation
bar of our home page, DiversityCentral.com, and click on the
"Non-Subscriber Search" using the search word fields.
Remember that using the search criterion "Match any word"
will get you the longest list of results but some of them
may not be as helpful as you want. "Match all words"
will produce a more selected list of results and "Match
exact phrase" will produce the shortest list. To get
the full article, if you're not a subscriber, you will have
to "select" to purchase it, add it to your shopping
cart, and go to final checkout. Remember, you can search by
topic or keyword (i.e., interviewing, team work, etc.), author's
name if you know it, or by article title if you know it.
This will take you to the Search page inside the Diversity
Store. A search with keywords produces a list of articles
or other resources including the title, author, first paragraph,
and number of words in the piece. Remember that using the
search criterion "Match any word" will get you the
longest list of results but some of them may not be as helpful
as you want. "Match all words" will produce a more
selected list of results and "Match exact phrase"
will produce the shortest list. Remember, you can search by
topic or keyword (i.e., interviewing, team work, etc.), author's
name if you know it, or by article title if you know it. If
you are a subscriber, you have already used your password
and you can download and print any article for personal use.
How
up to date are the articles in the CDW Archive?
New and fresh material is added
to the CDW Archive each month. However, most of the articles
and other written items were written earlier. Much of this
material comes from the Cultural Diversity at Work journal/newsletter
published by The GilDeane Group in hard copy between 1988
and 2000 and on the internet until 2004. After 2004, new material
appears on DiversityCentral.com then it goes into the CDW
Archive.
Even so, this valuable collection of diversity publications
remains valid to this day because the authors study and describe
how cultural practices and values may be modified to bring
about an environment of inclusion within an organization.
This effort has not changed yet. The cultural practices and
values of exclusion, including racism, ethnocentrism, homophobia,
and other forms of discrimination are still with us. They
do not change overnight because cultural change is glacial
in any society, unfortunately.
This is why our content remains valid. There is much work
remaining for progressive-mind change agents. We stress, nonetheless,
that new articles about diversity, along with Quick Polls,
Diversity Quizzes, and so on, continue to be published to
this day. They appear first on DiversityCentral.com then they
are archived. So you can be sure that the CDW Archive content
is relevant today.
Why
should I subscribe to the CDW Archive?
If you manage people you will
inevitably be confronted with the different ways that people
approach their jobs. Cultural backgrounds, no matter how broadly
or specifically you define them, always effect the way a person
approaches and does his/her job. The American workforce is
increasingly becoming more culturally diverse than ever. These
are the general reasons why you should subscribe to CDW Archive.
It offers you ideas and techniques that can help you do your
managing job better. Another reason is that you won't find
anything comparable on the Internet-DiversityCentral.com and
the CDW Archive offer you the most information.
What
if I forget my password and/or my ID?
If you forget your password
and/or ID, please call Sue at 206 362 0336 or e-mail her at
orders@diversitycentral.com. She will respond as quickly as
possible.

What
is the difference between an individual and a group subscription?
An individual subscription
is aimed at one individual person or user who works in or
is interested in the diversity field. The idea is for this
kind of user to access the CDW Archive, download any article,
and copy it for personal use only. A Group subscription may
be used by up to 15 individuals or users who may download
any article and copy it for their own personal use.
