What is the Search Results page? As a subscriber, how do I get articles from the CDW Archive? As a non-subscriber, how do I purchase an article that I want? How do I contact you? Subscriber search On the right-hand navigation bar, click on Subscriber Log in. You will be asked to enter your User name and Password, then you will arrive at the Search page. Once there, you can search and download as many articles as you want, as often as you want, with no fees. Non-subscriber search On the right-hand navigation bar, click on the Non-subscriber Search. This link will take you to the Search page inside the Diversity Store. You can search for articles and get the title, author, first paragraph, and number of words for free. To get the full article, you will have to select to purchase it, add it to your shopping cart, and go to final checkout. How to find an article on a particular topic Search by key words. When you arrive at the search page, choose the key words option. Enter your key words in the text box, then choose how broad or narrow you want to search (See how to narrow your search below). How to search by author You can search for articles using the author's last name. Be sure to select that option. How to narrow your search The CDW Archive offers three search parameters: Option one: Match any word Broadest search: this parameter selects every article in which any of your key words appear. SAMPLE SEARCH: Using this parameter, if you search by the key words, leadership competencies, the Search Results page will deliver 272 articles. Option two: Match all words Narrower search: this parameter selects any article in which all your key words appear, but not in any order. SAMPLE SEARCH: Using this parameter, if you search by the key words, leadership competencies, the Search Results page will deliver 40 articles. Option three: Match exact phrase Narrowest search: this parameter selects articles in which your key words appear in order. SAMPLE SEARCH: Using this parameter, if you search by the key words, leadership competencies, the Search Results page will deliver 3 articles. HOWEVER... If you are interested in leadership competencies, you'll also want to try other words. For example, search for CEO, executive, senior management, and senior leaders. You might also try search for the term competencies, by itself, or accountability. Using diversity as a search term Since all of our articles deal with aspects of diversity, using the word diversity as a key word search will give you too many articles. Choose more specific words such as diversity training, diversity competencies, intercultural communication, diversity dilemma, cultural insights, etc. What if my key words do not yield any articles? You have to be creative with databases; if your search terms do not turn up any articles, try other related words, also try words in both their singular and plural forms. Sometimes Match all words will give you better results than Match exact phrase. You have to experiment. What is the Search Results page? After you submit your search terms, the Search Results page will present a list of articles. Each article listed includes the first paragraph of the article, the author, the number of words in the article, and when it was first published. As a subscriber, how do I get articles from the CDW Archive? When you get the Search Results page, all the article titles that your search produced will appear in color. The article titles are the links; simply click on the article title and either Adobe Acrobat will open the pdf file of the article, or it will ask you where to download the pdf file. If Adobe Acrobat does not launch automatically on your computer, you will have to open Adobe Acrobat then open the pdf file from within Adobe Acrobat. As a non-subscriber, how do I purchase an article that I want? As a non-subscriber, you access the CDW Archive through the Non-subscriber Search or in our Diversity Store. Follow the search directions above for the non-subscriber. If you want to buy an article, simply click on Purchase, and Add to Cart. You will be able to download the articles you purchase at the end of your ordering process.
